KUKA Roboter presents a powerful team for arc welding

Two KR 5 arc, two KR 5 arc HW and a KUKA Posiflex = welding competence totaling 29 axes
Hanover, October 2008 Whatever the application – be it spot welding, laser welding or arc welding – KUKA Roboter GmbH always offers its customers a broad spectrum of technologically superior innovations. At EuroBLECH 2008, the Augsburg-based company is presenting a competent team for arc welding. The specialist KR 5 arc and KR 5 arc HW robots cooperate with the new KPF 5 positioning table, thus forming a unique team consisting of 29 coordinated axes.

In a technologically impressive cell, KUKA Roboter is combining its KUKA RoboTeam hub technology with in-depth arc welding know-how at EuroBLECH 2008. This constitutes an innovative solution that offers customers new flexibility in complex system concepts.

Two KUKA robots of type KR 5 arc work together with two KR 5 arc Hollow Wrist robots and the new KPF 5 positioning table. This system coordinates a total of 29 axis motions. This solution is suitable for every welding environment, not least because it is packed full of professional equipment. This comes from renowned KUKA Roboter partners, such as EWM, Merkle, Fronius, Kemppi, TBi, Dinse and Binzel Abicor.

All-rounders and welding experts
Thanks to its compact dimensions, the KR 5 arc takes up very little space and can be integrated into virtually any cell concept. Either floor-mounted or suspended from the ceiling, it accomplishes its tasks quickly and efficiently with high path accuracy. It has a working range of more than 1400 mm. Its modular design makes it a cost-effective solution. The service-proven KUKA KR C2 controller allows all the usual controller expansions. Equipped with the RoboTeam hub technology, the KR 5 arc is the latest member of the KUKA RoboTeam.

An ideal cooperation partner is naturally the KR 5 arc Hollow Wrist, whose special features make its presence at EuroBLECH mandatory. For example, it has a fluid supply system which is integrated in the arm. The dress package is thus optimally protected and axis 6 can be rotated infinitely without the need to reorientate the robot wrist during the work cycle. For the user, this means simplified offline programming and improved workpiece accessibility.

New: KUKA Posiflex KPF 5
On the topic of workpieces – this is where a new member of the KUKA Posiflex family makes its debut. And the new KPF 5 positioning table certainly gets to grips with workpieces. With a load-bearing capacity of 500 kg per side, it completes the powerful arc welding system. It has five axes with which it performs far-reaching motions for ideal positioning of the workpiece. What does it look like when it cooperates with the welding specialists? The best thing is for visitors to the fair to see for themselves – at Booth 38 in Hall 11.

However, it is not only at the company’s own booth that KUKA Roboter is maintaining a team spirit. The company is also jointly showcasing a wealth of other industry applications and solutions together with partner companies in its extensive network of system partners.
