Handling of die-cast parts
When AUDI AG decided to invest in a new die-casting pilot plant for the experimental foundry at the Ingolstadt works, the company looked for an automatic handling solution to go with it. The requirements were process reliability, repeatability, short cycle times and high flexibility, in order to be able to produce as large a range of parts as possible in limited space.

Handling of packaged beverages
In the beverage industry, large quantities of many different containers have to be palletized. Today, not only speed but also flexibility is demanded – flexibility which can only be provided by a six-axis jointed-arm robot.

Handling of plastic bumpers
Before installing the two production lines which are used today to manufacture bumpers for the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the Audi A4 convertible, the automotive supplier Decoma looked for a more flexible handling solution. Previously, for production of other bumpers, Decoma still used linear units. A change from “rigid” automation to the higher flexibility which is provided only by six-axis jointed-arm robots was therefore desirable.

Development work and series start-up for castings tie up machine capacity which would otherwise be available for actual production. Diecasting Technologies Center (DTC), located in Dohna near Dresden, was founded to provide a way around this problem.

Various assembly applications from the automotive industry - Automated labeling of vehicles
At the BMW AG plant in Regensburg, Germany, 860 BMW 3 Series cars are assembled per day and placed in intermediate storage in a high-bay warehouse. In order to optimize the application of these labels to the painted bodies with regard to quality and cost-effectiveness, BMW was seeking an automated solution.
