Handling of die-cast parts
When AUDI AG decided to invest in a new die-casting pilot plant for the experimental foundry at the Ingolstadt works, the company looked for an automatic handling solution to go with it. The requirements were process reliability, repeatability, short cycle times and high flexibility, in order to be able to produce as large a range of parts as possible in limited space.

Evaluation of tibial hamstring graft fixation
The working group led by outside lecturer Dr. Wolf Petersen at the Clinic for Orthopedic Surgery of the Christian Albrecht University, Kiel, conducted an experimental laboratory study for the biomechanical evaluation of endogenic knee ligament graft fixation techniques using a KUKA KR 125 robot and a universal force-moment sensor.

Handling of plastic bumpers
Before installing the two production lines which are used today to manufacture bumpers for the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the Audi A4 convertible, the automotive supplier Decoma looked for a more flexible handling solution. Previously, for production of other bumpers, Decoma still used linear units. A change from “rigid” automation to the higher flexibility which is provided only by six-axis jointed-arm robots was therefore desirable.

The task: to link the bending press to the forge hammer in the forging line of automotive supplier Schöneweiss. This involves the handling of red-hot truck and bus front axles weighing up to 180 kg.
