Augsburg/Munich, June 2004 – At the AUTOMATICA trade fair, the KUKA Robot Group, Europe’s leading manufacturer of industrial robots, is showing the way to the robot technology of the future. Also being addressed are the needs of users who want to investigate in detail the functions of their systems even before they are installed. This can be done using the simulation and offline programming software “KUKA SIM” developed by the KUKA Robot Group. With the aid of this look into the future, which is facilitated by realistic 3D layouts, programs can be created faster and more efficiently.
The benefits of “KUKA SIM” include, among other things, dynamic sales presentations, more reliable planning due to greater transparency when comparing different variants, and support for design engineering through timely verification of drafts and designs. The most important advantage for the customer, however, lies in programming: with “KUKA SIM” the customer can significantly reduce programming times. Moreover, it is possible to write and optimize extremely high-quality programs without interrupting production. What is more, “KUKA SIM” is an excellent training tool for safe, cost-effective operator training – including courses in expert programming.
Even the basic package, “KUKA SIM Layout”, is ideal for quick and easy creation of 3D layouts. With “KUKA SIM Layout” it is therefore possible to determine optimal layouts for production systems at an early phase of the project, and with minimal effort. The package also includes an electronic catalog. Most of the components it contains have defined parameters, and can thus be incorporated as they are, saving even more time. Remodeling with a CAD program is not necessary in these cases.
The advanced package, “KUKA SIM Pro”, provides a number of additional advantages. For example, the exact cycle times of a system can be analyzed ahead of time in the virtual world, without having to build the actual manufacturing cell. Furthermore, “KUKA SIM Pro” can be used for offline programming of robots. This is possible because the software communicates in real time with “KUKA OfficeLite”, the virtual robot controller. In addition, with “KUKA SIM Pro” it is possible to create and simulate even more complex kinematic structures, for example the motions of grippers and weld guns.
The final element in the software package is the “KUKA SIM Viewer”, whose outstanding graphics quality and true-to-life three-dimensional representation can be used to observe and verify the simulations.
